Debating Society

The Debating Society of Shyam Lal College (Evening) provides a platform for students to express their ideas, exchange perspectives, and engage in meaningful discussions. The society seeks to nurture a culture of free thought, respectful dialogue, and constructive criticism.

Our aim is to help students develop self-confidence, clarity of thought, logical reasoning, and effective communication skills—qualities that are valuable both inside and outside the classroom. By participating in debates, members learn not just the art of argumentation but also the importance of listening, patience, and respect for differing opinions.

The society organizes debates, group discussions, and interactive sessions on a wide range of topics—social, political, cultural, and literary. These activities encourage students to think critically, speak with conviction, and broaden their horizons. Beyond the college, our members are encouraged to participate in inter-college and university-level debating competitions, bringing recognition and pride to the institution.

For the society, debate is not merely about winning an argument, but about learning to listen, reason, and present ideas with respect and clarity.
