One-Day Capacity-Building Programme by Placement Cell
Report on One-Day Capacity-Building Programme on Enhancing Employability through Skill Development and Career Counselling
The Placement Cell of Shyam Lal College (Evening), University of Delhi, in collaboration with the V. V. Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI) and the National Institute for Career Service (NICS), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, organised a One-Day Capacity-Building Programme on “Enhancing Employability through Skill Development and Career Counselling” on 1 April 2026 at the college premises.
The programme commenced with an inaugural address by the Principal, Prof. Nachiketa Singh, who highlighted the importance of skill development, adaptability, and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving job market. This was followed by remarks from Dr. Surender Kumar Sharma, Convenor of the Placement Cell, who outlined the objectives and significance of the initiative.
The first session, delivered by Dr. Kalaiyarasan A. and Dr. Manoj Jatav, focused on the changing world of work in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, emphasising emerging job sectors and the need for adaptability. The second session, conducted by Dr. Abhishek from the National Skill Development Corporation, addressed the essential skills required for employability, including communication, digital competence, and critical thinking. The final session by Ms. Kanta Devi from the National Institute for Career Service provided valuable insights into government initiatives, particularly the National Career Service (NCS) portal and related opportunities for youth. The event concluded with a valedictory session, during which Dr. Surender Kumar Sharma and Ms. Deepika Jajoria, Assistant Professor, shared their reflections on the proceedings and appreciated the contributions of the speakers and participants.
The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, fostering an engaging and interactive learning environment. It concluded with a valedictory session, where organisers reflected on the success of the event.
Overall, the programme effectively enhanced awareness among students about labour market trends, skill requirements, and career opportunities. The event contributed in preparing students for the future and aligning with the broader vision of a skilled and empowered workforce under the Viksit Bharat initiative.
