The Inter-College Debate Competition 2026 marked a significant milestone for Manthan – The Debating Society of Shyam Lal College (Evening), University of Delhi, as it expanded its platform beyond the college to host participants from various institutions. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing multiple colleges across Delhi University and beyond, creating a vibrant and competitive intellectual environment.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment, setting an auspicious tone for the event. This was followed by an address by the Convenor, who emphasized the importance of such forums in nurturing critical thinking, confident expression, and informed dialogue among students.

The event proceedings were seamlessly conducted by Sanya Khare (B.Com. Hons., 2nd Year) and Mohd. Aman (B.A. Programme, 1st Year), whose confident and engaging compering added energy and professionalism to the programme.

The competition was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising Dr. Sruti (Department of Political Science),, Dr. Neeraj (Department of Hindi), and Dr. Akansha (Department of Environmental Studies), whose expertise ensured a fair and comprehensive assessment. Their insightful observations and feedback added significant value to the experience of the participants.

The event was further enriched by the gracious presence of esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Sunita Saxena (Department of Hindi), Prof. Sumitra (Department of Hindi), Dr. Sandhya Verma (Department of Political Science), Dr. Ram Roop Meena (Department of Hindi), Mr. Pranav (Department of Hindi), and Ms. Aruna Chaudhary (Department of Hindi), whose presence and encouragement added significant value to the programme.

The debate centered on the theme of “Trade Tariffs”, a topic of considerable relevance in the contemporary global economic context. Participants presented well-structured arguments both for and against the motion, critically examining whether tariffs act as protective economic measures or barriers to growth. The competition highlighted strong research, clarity of thought, and impressive oratory skills, making it a stimulating and engaging intellectual exchange.

The results were declared as follows:

  • First Position: Ritesh, Aatma Ram Sanatan Dharma College
  • Second Position: Brij Lala, Hindu College
  • Third Position: Rashi, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies
  • Fourth Position: Hitesh, Shyam Lal College (Evening)
  • Fifth Position: Sangam, Aatma Ram Sanatan Dharma College

The winners were felicitated for their outstanding performance. The efforts of Team Manthan, including its office-bearers and volunteers, were also acknowledged for successfully organizing the event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Karan Gupta, expressing gratitude to the Principal Sir, judges, participants, and audience for their valuable presence and contribution.
