Earth Day 2026: Our Power, Our Planet - A Report by the Department of Environmental Studies

The Department of Environmental Studies, Shyam Lal College (Evening), in collaboration with the Centre for Promotion of Environmental Conservation, Public Health & Hygiene, Lakshmibai College, organised Earth Day 2026 as a joint initiative of both institutions.The programme began with the rendition of Vande Mataram, creating a dignified and reflective atmosphere.
The event was addressed by Prof. Nachiketa Singh, Principal, Shyam Lal College (Evening), and Prof. Lata Sharma, Principal, Lakshmibai College. In their inspiring remarks, Prof. Nachiketa Singh, highlighted the vital role of educational institutions in promoting environmental awareness and encouraging youth to take responsible action towards sustainability.
The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Chander Prakash Ji (North Region Head, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi) and Distinguished Guest Dr. Maneesh Jaiswal (Director, Central Water Commission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India). Their insightful addresses focused on environmental sustainability, water conservation, and the need for collective efforts to address environmental challenges.
The programme was effectively planned and coordinated by Convenor Prof. Kumar Prashant, whose dedicated efforts ensured its smooth ecution. The event was successfully conducted with the support of EVS faculty members-Dr. Akanksha Verma, Dr. Ritu Jangirh, and Dr. Suman Rani. It was also attended by Prof. Pramod Kumar Dwivedi, IQAC Convenor, along with faculty members and students from both colleges.
A key highlight of the celebration was the enthusiastic participation of students in inter-college competitions such as Quiz, Poster Making, and Slogan Writing. These activities provided a platform for creativity and meaningful engagement with environmental issues, and the winners were felicitated for their achievements.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Akanksha Verma, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, organisers, and participants. The event reinforced the importance of sustainability and collective responsibility, inspiring everyone to contribute towards a cleaner and greener future.
