Courses Taught

COURSES OFFERED:

The Department  of History offers the following courses and papers under the UGCF 2020 framework:

  • History as Major or Minor in B.A. (Programme): The B.A. (Programme) course is a four-year undergraduate programme offered by the department with History as one of the disciplines. The course is offered in conjunction with other departments as the student has to select two disciplines as the student has to select two disciplines as streams. Every student, who has Computer Science as their discipline, can also opt history to be their Major as well. So, in this course, the students are taught the following paper:
  • Discipline Specific Core (DSC):History DSC paper is taught every semester to all students who have opted for History as one of their streams, irrespective of whether it is Major or Minor. In addition, students who opt History as Major are taught one additional DSC (Major) paper every semester.
  • Discipline Specific Elective (DSE):The department offers DSE papers to B.A. Programme students of 5th and 6th semester with History as Major or Minor, and to 7th and 8th semester students with Major only.
  • Generic Elective (GE): The department offers GE papers in History to Honours course students (B.A. Hons. / B.Com. Hons) from the 1st semester onwards, and to Programme course students (B.A. Prog. / B.Com. Prog.) as per university norms. GE in History is not offered to those B.A. (Programme) students who already have History as their discipline.
  • Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC): The department offers Reading the Archive, Museum & Museology and other courses from the SEC pool specified by the University, in semesters 1st to 6th.
  • Value Addition Courses (VAC): The department offers courses like SECs Ethics & Values in Ancient Indian tradition, Ethics and Culture, to all students of the college, from the VAC pool specified by the University from 1st to 4th
  • Skill Based Courses (SBC): The department offers SBC in 7th and 8th semester students of B.A. Programme with History  as their major subject.
