Academic Talk and Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony

The Department of Environmental Studies, Shyam Lal College (Evening), successfully organized an Academic Talk and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony in collaboration with the Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of Delhi, on 27th November 2025. The event was conceptualized by the organizing committee and graciously sanctioned by Principal Prof. Nachiketa Singh, whose visionary leadership and exemplary administrative acumen have long illuminated the institution’s path toward academic excellence. Under the profound guidance of Teacher-in-Charge and Program Convenor Prof. Kumar Prashant, alongside meticulous coordination by Dr. Ritu Jangirh, Dr. Suman Rani, and Dr. Akanksha Verma. The program unfolded with seamless precision and institutional distinction. The dais was adorned by eminent dignitaries, including Chief Guest – Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi; Guest of Honour Prof. Bindhy Wasini Pandey, Director, Centre for Himalayan Studies; Principal Prof. Nachiketa Singh; Prof. Kumar Prashant; and Prof. Aditya Tripathi.

The proceedings commenced with a reverent lamp lighting ceremony, followed by heartfelt felicitation of the distinguished guests. Principal Prof. Nachiketa Singh, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the institutional significance of environmental stewardship and Himalayan ecology. He articulated the imperative for interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing contemporary environmental challenges and encouraged faculty members across all departments to engage with the Centre for Himalayan Studies in collaborative research and academic endeavors.

Prof. Balaram Pani, Chief Guest, offered profound insights into Himalayan environmental degradation- spanning soil, air, and water contamination, alongside climate-induced biodiversity threats and glacial retreat driven by anthropogenic forces, affirming the pivotal role of academia in mitigation. Prof. Bindhy Wasini Pandey, Guest of Honour, unraveled the multifaceted geographical, socio-cultural, and ecological tapestry of the Himalayas, positioning it as India’s vital natural and heritage bastion while championing collaborative research, mentorship for students, and publications in prestigious journals. Adding luster to the discourse, Program Convenor Prof. Kumar Prashant, the visionary steward of the Department of Environmental Studies, articulated the institutional commitment towards environmental sustainability highlighting the demonstrated intellectual curiosity of undergraduate students within the college regarding environmental research and practice. He emphasized the inherently interdisciplinary nature of environmental studies and elucidated the interconnections between political science and environmental studies, demonstrating the relevance of environmental education in contemporary academic discourse.

The event culminated in a gracious vote of thanks by Dr. Manoj Kumar, drawing robust attendance from faculty, staff, and students across departments. This momentous gathering not only illuminated contemporary environmental imperatives but also heralded a luminous era of collaborative efforts between the two institutions, propelled by the inspirational leadership of Principal Prof. Nachiketa Singh and Convenor Prof. Kumar Prashant.
