Report on One-Day Capacity Building Programme on “Application of R for Labour Research”

A One-Day Capacity Building Programme on “Application of R for Labour Research” was organised on 27 March 2026 at the VVGNLI Campus, Noida by V. V. Giri National Labour Institute, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, in collaboration with Department of Economics, Shyam Lal College (Evening), University of Delhi. The programme aimed to equip undergraduate students with basic knowledge and practical skills in using R for data handling, analysis, and visualisation in labour research.

The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Nagesh Nitla (VVGNLI) and Dr. Manoj Jatav (VVGNLI). The technical sessions covered introduction to R and large-scale datasets, data handling techniques, and basic data analysis and visualisation. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Abdulla (VVGNLI), Ms. Deepika Jajoria (SLCE), and Dr. Krishna Ram from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi, and provided valuable hands-on learning experience to the participants.

The valedictory session, led by Dr. Nehkholen Haokip and Dr. Manoj Jatav, concluded the programme with participants’ feedback and reflections. The coordinators express sincere appreciation for the support and guidance extended by Prof. Nachiketa Singh, Principal, Shyam Lal College (Evening), and Dr. Arvind, Director General, VVGNLI, which was instrumental in the successful conduct of the programme.

Overall, the programme was successful in enhancing students’ analytical skills and promoting the use of R in labour and socio-economic research. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Manoj Jatav (VVGNLI), Dr. Nehkholen Haokip (SLCE), and Ms. Deepika Jajoria (SLCE).
