    Society

    HISTORY

    The Departmental society has always welcomed the ideas propagated by student zone. Students’ society is often an impetus towards the holistic development of students during the academic curriculum. The Department of History under the Convenorship of Dr D.N. Singh and under the guidance and supervision of Dr Pramod Kumar and Dr Manish Karmwar has achieved new heights during the academic session 2016-2017. Since its inception, the students have contributed in various capacities. The first Student president Ms. Swati Dhar formed History society SAKSHYA. In the year 2021, society added two innovative ideas to achieve real goal to students’ life 1. GRADUATE SCHOLARS’ TALK SERIES (GSTS), a weekly talk series by students & 2. JOURNAL OF CONTINUITY AND CHANGE By Graduates (JCC). This society also guided by Dr Seema and Mr Ajay Kumar as a young member of the department.

    2017-2018
    Sakshya, a student society of the department of history has organized a fresher’s welcome party in October 2017. Team members of Sakshya have participated in several seminars which includes college seminars on “The complicated path ahead for our nation”, “History and Heritage of Sindh”, “Issues in History” and on “A skill development programme During NAAC peer team visit, Sakshya represented the department of history and got positive feedback. Sakshya has encouraged students to participate in various educational trips and to extend the curriculum beyond the books. Mr. Ashish Kumar (President), Mr. Utpal Kant (Vice-President), Ms. Sakshi (Secretary) and Ms. Stanzin Angmo (Treasurer) have always put in their continuous efforts for successful deliberation of all the events and activities.

    2018-2019
    Departmental Students have visited different monuments, museums, National archives, Historical places in Delhi and also interacted with students and teachers of various colleges for their GE, SEC curriculum activities. Ms. Sakshi was president of society.

    2019-2020
    Sakshya, a student society of the department of history has organized a fresher’s welcome party in October 2019. Team members of Sakshya have contributed in various seminars which include “Issues in History” One-day seminar on 31st August 2019, One-day seminar on “One Step for Needy” Collaboration with NGO: UMEED: A drop of hope on 13th November 2019 and A Nukad Natak: AZADI-E-PLASTIC on 13th November 2019. Ms. Pinki Kasana (President), Mr. Rabban Jidan, Mr. Paras (Vice-Presidents), Ms. Kiran Yadav, Mr.Lovkush (Secretaries), Mr.Lovely (Joint Secretary) and Ms.Riya & Ms.Khushi (Treasurers) have always spent their unremitting efforts for effective planning of all the proceedings and actions.


    2020-2021
    Society believes that history is a part of our lives rather than a mere subject. This, distinguished thinking about the subject encourages students to explore more about the historical ventures through various activities of SAKSHYA. The Society of History has organized an online Freshers’ Welcome and Orientation Program on 5th December 2020, (Saturday) through Google meet. It has also organized a Seminar on OPEN BOOK EXAMINATION (OBE). The event was held on 7th December 2020, (Monday) in which S.O. Shri Deepak Kumar was invited to make students familiar with the OBE system. Mr Ankit (President), Ms Mandira Paul (Vice-President), Mr Shubham Tiwari (Secretary), Ms Preeti (Joint Secretary) Ms Chandani Sikarwar (Treasurer) and Executive Members- Ms Charu, Ms Shakshi, Mr Ajay k. Gupta, Mr Vishesh Kashmi, Ms Priya, and Ms Divya Tyagi have always put in their constant energies for effective planning of all the events and activities of the Society.

    2021-2022
    Sakshya achieved new wings to fly high in the online mode, during the session 2021-22. We have initiated two new ideas for this academic year

    • Sakshya organised an online Graduation Ceremony for the batch of 2018-2021, on 4th August 2021(3pm -4pm) on google meet. FIR MILENGE: YAADEIN BANANA ABHI BAAKI HAI. In the event senior students shares their experiences, The winner of the event – Ms Chandni Sikarwar (Ms farewell) and Mr Mohammed Mahboob (Mr farewell).
    • History society organised Globe trotter on an historical expedition on 27 Sept 2021 at 1:00pm on google meet. Ms Krishnangi Tripathi got the 1st prize, Mr Prasoon Chand awarded 2nd position, Mr Sanskar sihoriya got 3rd position.

    GRADUATE SCHOLARS’ TALK SERIES (GSTS)
    It is noteworthy to put forth the newly initiated and established progression of Shyam Lal College (Evening). The Society of history, i.e., SAKSHYA, under the aegis of IQAC, has established a weekly talk series for the graduate candidates who are enthusiastic to portray their thoughts, opinions, and understanding of a plethora of scholarly topics. This initiative, entitled as Graduates Scholars’ Talk Series, acronymed GSTS, invites students from various backgrounds from all across the country and provides them with a platform to express themselves their views their research and even their opinions, henceforth, enhancing their presentation skills on a professional level.
    It is always applaudable and crucial to acquire perceptions of the aspects that exist around us so, we, at GSTS unite to grab in fascinating, scholarly, critical and intellectual insights on various socio-economic, political, literary, philosophical, scientific and a blend of other topics.
    The series started on 07th February 2021, through the virtual platform of Google Meet. Since then, is has been a great success. The students, brimmed with enthusiasm, participate in the event, and comprehending the scholarly insights that they portray, is astonishing for all the virtual attendees who relish the session throughout. Till date, we have hosted 40 public lectures. This talk is indeed, a virtuous and meritorious attempt to illuminate the young minds and furnish and bring out best of their capabilities. The research work is carried out by the young graduates on the topic of their interest. After hours and days of diligent study, and the proficient suggestions of the faculty advisor, Dr. Manish Karmwar and the GSTS’ coordinators, the well-versed demonstration on the Sundays leaves the audience awe-struck. The awarding talks are an amalgamation of their deep analytical and critical thinking.
    The entire GSTS fraternity ensures that the talk sessions are well organized, planned, and executed. For the same, the team is committed to bring forth the best of a speaker’s perceptions on critical subjects.

    We have already published three magazines starting from the month of July. The first magazine was on the theme, The Population Bomb, the second issue was, Fear and Courage for the month of August, the third issue titled The Next Frontier in September, the fourth issue was on the theme Incredible India for the month of October.
